Cannes (France), (EFE).- Pedro Almodóvar is this Thursday at the Cannes Film Festival presenting his latest work, but with an eye on the upcoming elections in Spain, and has assured that he hopes “desperately that Podemos will come together with all the left”.
If not, the filmmaker has added before a small group of media, including EFE, “he will have a very big responsibility” because “the right can win.”
“Unfortunately, I am still not very calm, because what I hope is that all the parties finally agree – there are many things that they can agree on – and that there is no dispute between them,” Almodóvar pointed out.
Faced with polls that change every day, for the filmmaker from La Mancha we are “in a very delicate moment, especially because we were not used to having a far-right party until five years ago.”
“They create a lot of noise, they hinder a lot and they intoxicate society, the media and the political environment a lot,” he said.
In this regard, he referred to Congress, where “a tone of voice among politicians and attacks that make you distrust the political class have been heard, because in no profession do people treat each other as badly as in politics in Spain” .
The current situation makes you worry about the next general elections, which should be held at the end of the year. “What I ask above all is that Spanish citizens vote and those of the left, that all the leftist parties join. And that they are together. It will be the way to continue having a left-wing government, ”he added.
