Zaragoza, May 18 (EFE).- The Huesca International Film Festival will award the Luis Buñuel Award in its 51st edition to the actress Aitana Sánchez-Gijón, one of the most prominent names in the Spanish-language audiovisual industry, on the 13th of June at the Olimpia Theater in the Alto Aragonese capital.
The actress, Italian by birth, has participated in more than 70 productions, for which she has received nearly thirty awards inside and outside Spain and has worked in film, television and theater.
Winner of the Goya Award, Platinum Award and the Feroz Award for Best Supporting Actress in 2022 for “Parallel Mothers” by Pedro Almodóvar, in 1998 she became the first woman to preside over the Spanish Film Academy.
The director of the Huesca Festival, Estela Rasal, has highlighted Sánchez-Gijón as “a benchmark for the entire sector, praised by critics and loved by the public” and an “empowered” woman, which is why for the contest it is “I am proud to recognize his career and his work in the cultural field.”
At the gala in which this recognition will be awarded, a selection of shorts in which the actress has participated throughout her career will be screened, a facet less known by the general public but which directly links the recognition with the essence and spine The bib number of the Huesca event, one of the oldest focused on this genre and one of the only six in Spain that qualify for the Oscar Awards, recalls the organization in a statement.
A session with productions selected in Cannes and nominated for the Goya Awards, where all the registers of this interpreter are combined: drama, comedy and even horror.
The name of Aitana Sánchez Gijón joins the list of winners of this recognition, which includes Bertrand Tavernier, Marisa Paredes, Stephen Frears, Carlos Saura, Ángela Molina, Jean-Claude Carrière, Costa-Gavras, Álex de la Iglesia, Gonzalo Suárez, the Taviani brothers, Isabel Coixet or Terry Gilliam last year, among many others.
