Toledo (EFE).- The president of the EFE Agency, Gabriela Cañas, has been named Favorite Daughter of Castilla-La Mancha along with 19 other people who will receive this same recognition on May 31, Region Day, at institutional event to be held at the Gran Teatro de Manzanares (Ciudad Real).
The spokesperson for the Government of Castilla-La Mancha, Blanca Fernández, announced this Wednesday, at a press conference at the Fuensalida Palace in Toledo, the seat of the regional Executive, the 39 awards and distinctions approved by the Governing Council this week .
Fernández has highlighted that the place chosen this year for the celebration of the Day of the Region, Manzanares, is a “very emblematic” town because in 1981 the assembly of national and provincial parliamentarians of Castilla-La Mancha met there to begin drafting the Autonomy Statute.
Commemoration of Autonomy
The event will take place in Manzanares (Ciudad Real) under the motto “Castilla-La Mancha Advances 1983-2023” to celebrate the 40th anniversary of autonomy and during it a total of 39 awards will be given, of which two are Medals de Oro, 20 Favorite Sons, six Adoptive Sons and 11 Regional Merit Plaques.
One of the two gold medals went to Ana Céspedes, Global Director of Operations at IAVI (International AIDS Vaccine Initiative), which works to accelerate the development of vaccines, for her contribution to science, research and public health. world on equal terms.
Rafael de Lorenzo, general secretary of the ONCE Foundation, has also been awarded the Castilla-La Mancha Gold Medal for his contribution to the exercise of the rights of people with disabilities in Spain.
In addition to Cañas, the Government of Castilla-La Mancha has recognized Agustín Escobar, President and CEO of Siemens Spain as Favorite Son; Ana González, the fashion designer better known as Ana Locking; and Carmen Toledo, singer-songwriter known as Karmento.
Also Gema Arenas, ultra trail athlete; Javier Senent, president of the Spanish Red Cross; Laura Galán, actress and Goya Revelation; and Luis Casimiro Palomo, basketball coach.
Gabriela Cañas, a native of Cuenca, has been president of the EFE Agency since May 2020 and has spent most of her career at “El País”, where she has been head of the Madrid and Society sections, correspondent in Paris and Brussels and editorialist.
She has also been deputy director of the UAM-El País School of Journalism and between 2006 and 2008 she was general director of International Information of the Presidency of the Government.
