Vitoria, (EFE).- Jokin Muñoz and Rebeca Suárez won this Sunday in the Martín Fiz Marathon that was held in Vitoria and in which some 2,700 athletes took part in the different tests.
On a day marked by rain and storms, the Basque capital hosted the twentieth edition of a test that brought numerous fans to the streets.
In the longest test, the 42-kilometer one, Jokin Muñoz was the fastest with a time of 2:24:50 in an electric finish that left Jesús González in second position at 27 seconds (2:25:17). The drawer was completed by Guillermo Vahl with a time of 2 hours 35 minutes and 13 seconds.
A few minutes later the fastest female athlete crossed the finish line. Rebeca Suárez stopped the clock after 2 hours 47 minutes 48 seconds; she ahead of María Lázaro who finished the test with 2:50:37. Close came María Mercedes Pila with a mark of 2:51:01.
A little over an hour was needed for Pablo Benito to complete the 21 kilometer test. With a time of 1:09:06 he overtook Gustavo Sánchez who crossed the finish line three minutes later (1:12:08). The podium was completed by Alejandro Paredero with a third place and a mark of 1:12:22.
In the women’s half marathon, the first two entered practically together. Paula Mayero was the fastest with a time of 1:23:38, María Navascues was second just 15 seconds behind the first position (1:23:53), while Diana Vecillas did them two minutes later (1:26: 08).

In the shortest race, the 10 kilometer race, and in which Martín Fiz participated, Omar Jiménez stopped the time with 30 minutes and 14 seconds; Ander Uribe did it with 30:35 and Alberto Díaz was third with 8 seconds difference (30:43).
In the women’s event, Zaira Acedo was the fastest with 37:30, Lorena Herrera was second with a time of 38:13 and Txaro Alonso third (38:26).

It was a test with many incentives for several participants in which circuits were released, approved by the Spanish Athletics Federation. There was time for demands, tributes and records, such as that of the Catalan Dani Jiménez who, at 33 years of age, became the youngest athlete in Europe to reach the figure of 100 marathons.
Among the curiosities, Nerea Tarragona’s proposal to Óscar Irún when crossing the finish line stood out.
