Oviedo (EFE) the driver of the vehicle, a 20-year-old young man who ran over them in their flight.
The Court of Instruction number 2 of Oviedo agreed a few weeks ago to continue the proceedings of the open case against the two police officers despite the fact that the Prosecutor’s Office had advocated filing it on the understanding that what happened was due to a misunderstanding linked to an overreach of the agents in the exercise of their functions.
The events occurred at 9:00 p.m. on June 24 when two plain-clothes agents on surveillance work against drug trafficking and illegal racing in the San Lázaro area approached a car parked on an esplanade with a license plate. identification hanging from the chest and requested the driver’s ID.
According to the Prosecutor’s Office, the driver, who was in the car with his girlfriend, was suspicious that they were real agents, since he did not think that the badge-emblem they were showing him and the car in which they had arrived were from the Local Police, for which he feared that they could do something bad to them and decided to flee.
When starting the car and reversing, the car ran over the foot of one of the officers, who then drew his pistol and fired three shots that impacted the lower part of the vehicle, while the other officer had to jump towards one side to avoid being run over.
Request for help at 112
During the escape, the young woman who accompanied the driver called 112 to ask for help and said verbatim to the operator: “Some people who call themselves the police are chasing us… the license plate did not seem official… we have been shot and a window has been broken.” … we are in the area of the La Florida neighborhood, in Oviedo…”.
However, the two agents managed to catch up with them and block the passage of the car that the young man was driving, one kilometer away from the place where the events began, at which time the driver was arrested.
For the Prosecutor’s Office, “the facts reported do not constitute a criminal offense, for which reason it requests the free acquittal of both agents.”
At the request of the Public Prosecutor, the court decreed a few weeks ago the provisional file of the case against the young man for possible crimes of assault and injury, since he was not aware that the two agents were members of the Local Police as they did not wear uniform , go in a camouflaged car and not carry the plate or show it in a regulatory manner in an area that is not traveled, dark and lonely.
