Palma, May 8 (EFE).- The Spanish team Mallorca Palma Futsal, brand new champion of the Futsal Champions League, toured the Champions Cup this Monday on a tour bus tour of the Balearic capital and has received the recognition of the public institutions of the islands.
One day after defeating the powerful Portuguese teams Benfica and Sporting Clube at the Illes Balears Velodrome with more than 5,000 fans in the stands, Mallorca Palma Futsal celebrated its first official title in its 25-year history as befits the epic Final a Four European that has won.
The Palma club with its general director José Tirado and the coach Antonio Vadillo at the head of the group of players and managers were received by Francina Armengol, president of the Balearic Government, Catalina Cladera, president of the Mallorca Council and José Hila, mayor of Palma, who they received the commemorative UEFA pennant and a ball signed by the squad.
The three representatives of the public institutions of the Islands thanked the effort made by the team until they lifted the Cup that accredits them as the best European team.
“The final was one of the most emotional things I have experienced recently and I want to congratulate you all”, said Catalina Cladera.
Shortly afterwards, the players and managers of the European champions also greeted some 200 fans gathered there from the balcony of Palma City Hall, where the “Palma és de Xampions” sign was displayed.
“Thank you for the welcome. We are very happy. We have shown Europe and the world that these players have proudly defended the name of Palma”, stated Tirado.
Vadillo, for his part, thanked the town hall for the reception and the mayor for the support so that the conquest of the ‘Champions’ has been feasible: “We are not aware of what we have done”, remarked the coach of the Mallorcan five.
José Hila also said that Palma was “proud” that a European champion team bears the name of the city “everywhere”.
“Winning at home is the dream of any team; There is nothing better than playing a Champions League final in Palma and for our team to win it”, emphasized the mayor of the Balearic capital.
Finally, the Palma Futsal delegation went to the headquarters of the Balearic Executive where it was the subject of an official reception in an act presided over by the President of the Government, Francina Armengol, and in which Viçens Thomàs, President of the Parliament of the Illes Balears, Fina Santiago, Minister of Social Affairs and Sports and Carles Gonyalons, General Director of Sports.
“You are European champions and it is something very intense. I only have words of thanks and congratulations for the players and for everyone who has made this dream come true. Winning the Champions League is wonderful,” said Armengol.
The president of the Balearic Islands also had words of remembrance for Miquel Jaume, founder and president of Palma Futsal, who died in 2021: “He was the first to believe in this dream,” remarked Francina Armengol.
