Madrid (EFE) Secretary of State for Equality, Ángela Rodríguez, Pam, describing it as “sexist”, and to which the organization of the event has responded with an official statement apologizing.
Ángela Rodríguez, number two of the Minister of Equality, Irene Montero, criticized the gift of a kitchen robot to the winner of the test “and the rest 0% products (…) If you succeed as a housewife and if not, at least lose weight . The problem is not what is ‘pink’ but that companies use it to cover up what is important, such as the fight against machismo. Still more races are needed,” she declared.
His comment, which found support and criticism on social networks, was responded to this Monday by the organization of the race through a statement.
The organization of the Madrid Women’s Race responds
“First of all, the Madrid City Council is not the organizer of the Women’s Race, and it does not give prizes or gifts to the participants. The gifts are offered by the sponsors of the event itself. In this case, the kitchen robot was not a prize, it was a gift, like many others that the sponsors have given after the test. The only prize that the organization gives out are the trophies”, they say.
Even so, the organization “regrets if any woman may have felt offended” and stresses that the fact “may have been seen from a biased perspective that could generate controversy.”
“We apologize but we consider that it is a product that is not sexist and that it is ideal for any athlete who wants to improve their nutritional habits and both men and women can cook unprocessed food in less time and in a very simple way.”
Finally, the organization says it is aware of “the fight for the eradication of any sexist stereotype” and that precisely for this reason they continually carry out “an exercise of self-censorship to prevent any gift or sponsor brand from generating negative comments.”
