Las Palmas de Gran Canaria (EFE).- The president of UD Las Palmas, Miguel Ángel Ramírez, announced this Thursday that the team’s coach, Javier García Pimienta, has a renewal offer for the next 2023-2024 season regardless of whether or not the island team achieves promotion to the First Division.
The yellow leader has indicated this Thursday in a brief appearance before the media that he would “love” that the Catalan coach “accept” the proposal that is already in the hands of his representative to “give continuity to his work.”
Ramírez has qualified that Pimienta now only has in mind achieving promotion to LaLiga Santander “because he will have a better contract in the First Division than in the Second Division”, although the renewal offer would be maintained even if the team from Gran Canaria did not achieve its objective of reaching the football elite Spanish.
Despite the bad run of the team in the most decisive stretch of the season, the president of the Sports Union has stressed that he does not want “pessimism to set in” and recalled that they have “a great team, one of the most scorers and the least thrashed”.
Thus, he has pointed out that they have a “lying squad” because “they train very well but later they are not completely effective in games”.
“Let pessimism go to another island, let it not stay in Gran Canaria, nobody said that this was going to be easy. In the last two games against Levante and Zaragoza there has been an improvement and we want to continue in that line. We depend on us, we have promotion in our hands, and if not, to die in the play-off, but Unión Deportiva is deserving of promotion to First Division ”, he emphasized.
Ramírez recalls that they are only one point away from direct promotion, a zone they would be in now if they had scored one more goal last Sunday in Zaragoza (1-1).
“It will not be decided until the last minute of the last game who will be promoted”, the island president has predicted. EFE
