Madrid, (EFE).- The Central Electoral Board (JEC), which met today in Madrid, is inclined to withdraw the seat of the suspended president of the Parliament of Catalonia, Laura Borràs, after having been sentenced by the Superior Court of Justice of Catalonia (TSJC) to 4 and a half years in prison for awarding contracts by hand.
The JEC has not yet drawn up this resolution and has not communicated it to the parties, although sources from this body have assured EFE that with almost total probability this will be the final decision of the electoral referee.
The same sources have also explained that the JEC will order the Parliament to withdraw the seat from Borràs and will issue the accreditation of deputy to the next on the JxCat list in the last regional elections.
With this decision, the JEC would reject the allegations presented by Borràs herself and by the Parliament, which she gave ten days to express her disagreement with the withdrawal of the seat.
The lawyers of the Catalan chamber argued that depriving Borràs of the right to participate “requires that the conviction of disqualification be final.”
Laura Borrás is sentenced by the TSJC to 4 and a half years in prison and 13 years of disqualification for awarding contracts to a friend during her term as head of the Institució de les Lletres Catalanes (ILC) and has also been sentenced for crimes of prevarication and documentary falsification, although the court proposed to the Government a partial pardon so that he can avoid prison.
