Madrid (EFE).- More than 70 demonstrations will tour the streets of all Spain this May Day with the main demand to raise wages to alleviate the loss of purchasing power of workers in this inflationary crisis.
Under the motto “Raise wages, lower prices, distribute benefits”, the UGT and CCOO have put at the center this year the need to increase wages in the face of an escalation in prices after which they point to “excess corporate profits”.
The unions arrive at this appointment urging the CEOE and Cepyme employers to close the negotiations of a new framework agreement that serves as an indication in sector and company agreements and that, for the moment, continues to be blocked by the salary guarantee clauses.
“We need decent wages that grow in parameters equivalent to inflation, guaranteeing purchasing power. For this, the salary guarantee clause is essential ”, reads the joint manifesto for a day that will also be marked by the electoral campaign.
The demonstration in Madrid, which will take place from Gran Vía on the corner with Calle Alcalá to Plaza de España, will be attended by the Second Vice President and Minister of Labor, Yolanda Díaz.
The Minister of Finance, María Jesús Montero, as well as different representatives of other progressive parties will also participate in the Madrid march.
Although the central demand goes through wages and to return to resume negotiations with the CEOE employers, the unions also come to this May Day with various demands on the Government such as that it “move a piece in the fiscal field to transfer income to households that need it” or the need to review the cost of dismissal.
Already in electoral key, CCOO and UGT encourage to participate in the next elections supporting “the electoral proposals of progress”.
From other unions, such as CSIF, they have also indicated their demands for this May Day that begin by modifying the Organic Law of Union Freedom “to open representation to the whole of Spanish society.”
