Khartoum (EFE) it has left hundreds dead and thousands injured in Sudan.
Planes of the Sudanese Army flew over different areas of Khartoum this morning, such as Shambat, in the north of Khartoum Bahari; on the south of Um Durman, and on the east of the Nile; actions to which the FAR responded with anti-aircraft, according to EFE on the ground.
The confrontation occurs hours before the end of the fifth truce – none respected by both parties – since the beginning of the fighting in mid-April.
Crossing of accusations
The Sudanese Army said in a statement that it “is observing the movements of the enemy”, which is moving “from the west towards the capital”, which it affirms that it “continues with its violation of the truce”.
He assured that his forces destroyed groups of the FAR in the south of the area of Al Zariba, in the north of Kordofan, and in Al Mueilah Fatasha, in the west of Um Durman.
For its part, the FAR accused the Army of violating the extension of the 72-hour ceasefire that came into force at midnight last Thursday after mediation by the United States.
“The violations of the coup leaders of the Armed Forces and the extremist remnants of the former regime against the announced humanitarian truce continue,” the FAR indicated on its Twitter profile.
In that same social network, the paramilitaries accused the Army of attacking “with cannons and planes” positions under their control in various areas of the state of Khartoum, in addition to carrying out “other indiscriminate attacks”, to which are added those of yesterday in “Bahari, Al Halfaya, Um Durman and South Khartoum”.
Tense calm in Khartoum
Despite the appearance of combat planes, so far the tension is less than yesterday, when there were direct clashes in the north and south of Um Durman, near the Al Halfaya bridge.
In addition, this Sunday no explosions or shelling were heard in the residential neighborhoods of the Sudanese capital.
However, throughout this morning, witnesses saw columns of smoke in the center of the capital after sporadic clashes in the area, and told EFE that the fire broke out at the headquarters of the Central Bank of Sudan, located near the Army headquarters.
The FAR assured their commitment to the announced humanitarian truce “to open safe corridors and facilitate the evacuation of foreigners” and affirmed that “they will never surrender to respond to any movement” of the Army which they call “coup plotter”.
The Sudanese Army announced in parallel that “the evacuations of foreigners will continue from the Wadi Sidna base, north of Khartoum”, and indicated that the “base currently has no threat”.
In addition, he added that “the rebels” of the FAR “turned the hospital on the east of the Nile into a military barracks full of weapons and a command center for operations”, a point on which the paramilitaries have not ruled.
First aid shipment arrives in Sudan
The first shipment of aid and humanitarian personnel, supplied by the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), arrived in Sudan today with the priority objective of resupplying medical and surgical supplies to hospitals that receive those injured in fighting between the two factions of the military regime that ran the country.
Humanitarian organizations, several of which have had to stop their activities and repatriate their collaborators due to the risk to their lives, have indicated that the situation is critical.
The eight tons of aid sent by the ICRC, which continues to operate in the country, includes anesthesia, bandages, suture material and other emergency items, and have arrived by air in Port Sudan, the ICRC confirmed.
From there it will have to be transported to Khartoum, the capital of the country where the hostilities between the army and the paramilitary group called Rapid Support Forces are concentrated.
