Palma, (EFE).- The president of the Andalusian PP and the Junta de Andalucía, Juanma Moreno, has defended this Saturday the processing of the project to regularize irrigation in the North Crown of Doñana and has asked for “sensibleness” and “sanity” to the central government to study their proposals.
The Andalusian leader offered a press conference this Saturday in Palma together with the president of the PP in the Balearic Islands and candidate for the Government, Marga Prohens, on an initiative already implemented in Andalusia to expedite projects and attract investment.
Asked if he maintained his position despite the slap on the wrist of the Lithuanian commissioner Virginius Sinkevicius, who warned that, if this law is approved, “it could degrade the protected Doñana wetland”, Moreno has insisted on continuing with his plan to legalize irrigation of some 700 hectares in Huelva, 30 kilometers from the National Park and with surface waters that would not affect the aquifer.
“The position of the Government of Andalusia is exactly the same as a year ago. This bill does not imply any attack on Doñana, it has the maximum protection”, stressed the Andalusian president.
Discuss calmly and sensibly
“What we have basically done has been to initiate a bill subject to modifications. If there is, we are willing to listen to an alternative. What we want is that, on the part of the Government, which has not attended us since December, we ask that it propose its alternative and from there we study it ”, he explained.
For Moreno, “this unprecedented attack” by the PSOE did not make any sense, in order to “scratch a handful of votes” in the regional and municipal elections on May 28.
In this sense, the president of the Junta de Andalucía has asked for sanity. “They have called me a terrorist. A government must act calmly and sensibly ”, he opined.
Moreno has also argued that Doñana is “hyper protected” and has stated that in her life she would put her at risk. “Let’s see if we put pride aside and there is more serenity and dialogue,” she requested.
To questions from the press about the drought, the popular president has recognized that it is beginning to be a structural problem due to climate change and has lamented the lack of water works so that the aquifers do not dry up.
The drama of Andalusia without water
“If it doesn’t rain in six months, there will be a social and economic conflict in Andalusia. Our farmers can’t take it anymore ”, he warned, while urging the central government to urgently allocate European funds to have water works in his community.
“If there is no water in Andalusia, we will have a drama,” he concluded.
Moreno inaugurated this Friday in Palma the April Fair at the Casa de Andalucía in the Balearic Islands together with leaders of the PP in the Balearic Islands and this Saturday he visits the center of Palma and the popular Olivar market. EFE
