Barcelona (EFE).- The historic leader of the PPC and current president of the Democratic League, Santiago Fisas, will close the list of the popular candidate for mayor of Barcelona, Daniel Sirera, in the municipal elections on May 28.
Fisas, who was a PP councilor in the Barcelona City Council between 1999 and 2002 and MEP (2009-2019), has held the positions of Secretary of State for Sport (1998-1999) and Councilor for Culture and Sports of the Community of Madrid (2003-2009); In 2019, he left the PP to found Lliga Democràtica, a formation that claims to be constitutionalist and Catalan.
Sirera has announced this Friday the incorporation of Fisas in the presentation of his candidacy, where he has revealed the rest of the names that will accompany him.
For the mayor, the symbolic incorporation of Fisas, whose “prestige” has been highlighted, represents a “golden closure” for his candidacy.
Regarding the departure of Fisas from the PP four years ago, Sirera has assured that “surely everyone is responsible for people abandoning the political project”, but has valued his return: “Even though you are going (together with Tomás Ragué, from Centrem) as an independent, I know that it is the first step for things to end well”.
Together with Fisas, names such as the secretary of the Spanish Embassy in Venezuela, Neus Ros, or the former professional basketball player and collaborator in social gatherings Carlos Ruf make up Sirera’s list.
The will of this candidacy, the mayor has expressed, is to “broaden the bases of the PP” and turn it into a party in which “everyone who believes in Barcelona, in Catalonia and in Spain feels comfortable”.
Sirera wants an office to support the occupations
On the other hand, Sirera has announced that, if he is mayor, he will create an “office to support residents and owners who suffer from occupancy problems”, although he has explained that “the solution” goes through the Congress of Deputies, where The law must be modified “so that squatters spend a maximum of 24 hours occupying a property.”
Thus, he has ensured that “when I am mayor of Barcelona, citizens who abide by the law will have rights and those who do not, will not”; In addition, he has promised that “he will prevent squatters from registering in the houses they occupy.”
