Washington (EFE).- The tycoon Elon Musk, owner of Twitter, confirmed this Thursday that he is paying for the blue verification mark of the social network of some celebrities, after the company has removed the label from most of the accounts that are not subscribed to the Twitter Blue service.
“Only Shatner, LeBron and King,” Musk responded to a message on the social network about the businessman’s confession that he personally pays for the subscription to the accounts of these three personalities: actor William Shatner, basketball player LeBron James and the author Stephen King.
Both James and King had previously announced that they would not pay for the subscription service of Twitter, which costs eight dollars a month. King, in fact, today published a message on the social network in which he claimed not to know why the famous blue “tick” kept appearing, since he has not subscribed to Twitter Blue.
Twitter Blue users can edit their “tweets”, post content of up to 10,000 characters and have the platform’s algorithm boost their posts.
Yet only 0.2% of web users pay for Twitter Blue: In March, Twitter Blue had around 116,000 confirmed signups across the web, up 138% from the previous month, according to Similarweb.
This amount of subscriptions does not produce enough revenue to offset the money the company lost when various companies stopped advertising on Twitter with the arrival of the CEO of Tesla and XSpace.
