Seville, (EFE).- The Andalusian president, Juanma Moreno, has convened a meeting of the Committee of Drought Experts for tomorrow in order to address what he has described as one of the “most serious problems” not only in Andalusia but also of Spain, and has asked the central government to “assume its responsibility” and invest in hydraulic infrastructure.
On November 3, 2022, Moreno chaired the last meeting of the Committee of Experts created within the SOS Plan that the Andalusian Government launched to promote measures and investments worth just over 4,000 million euros until 2027 and which complements the Drought Monitoring Commission, created in September.
In his speech to present the PP candidate for Mayor of Seville, José Luis Sanz, at an event organized by Nueva Economía Fórum, Moreno on Monday showed his concern about the drought in Andalusia, exacerbated by a month of April in which “Not a drop of water has fallen”, and he added that this problem must be faced “with great rigor and work”.
Investment effort in water infrastructure
After recalling that hydraulic works “are not done overnight”, he has requested the commitment of all administrations in this problem but “especially” the central government, which he has demanded to have “a water policy for Spain and for Andalusia” because it is something that the Andalusians “miss”.
He stressed that problems cannot be solved “with chest beatings, hoaxes and false debates”, and added that the Andalusian government is making a “titanic and solo effort” to invest in water infrastructure, something that -has remembered – has been warning since he took office.
“I ask the Government to assume its responsibility, to carry out its works, I don’t care if it is near or far from Doñana, but to carry out its water works”, highlighted Moreno, who has also taken the opportunity to ask that “the attacks on Andalucía” and to stop “discrediting” strawberry producers and the Andalusian “brand”.
