“If we want to continue being the capital of smart tourism, we must have a sustainable tourism model, which orders and plans the activities that generate crowds and little economic impact on the city,” explained Gómez.
SET A CAP ON CRUISES
According to the candidate, the proposal contemplates analyzing the city’s visitor reception capacity in relation to cruise ship activity to set a limit and prevent concentrations from occurring in some spaces.
“This measure, which we will implement in collaboration with the Port Authority, will allow us to reconcile the well-being of residents and the satisfaction of all the tourists who visit us,” Gómez continued.
“We want the tourism model in Valencia to continue to be sustainable and not create pressure on the city’s resources, as we established in the Strategic Tourism Plan that I personally promoted and that had the support of all the political groups”, he added. .
A SUSTAINABLE CITY MODEL
He stressed that, thanks to “the left hand of the Socialist Party”, “the low cost model of the PP has been replaced by a sustainable and quality model.
However, he has advocated “continuing to move forward and control cruise tourism to prevent it from generating distortion.”
For the deputy mayor, the work carried out by the PSPV over these years has allowed Valencia to reach a record number of visitors, with historical occupancy and profitability data, as well as the recognition of the city as the European capital of smart tourism, sources from the party have reported. .
“Now, to revalidate this successful model that allows us to reconcile tourism with the well-being of the residents of Valencia, we must continue to implement measures that allow us to improve the management of tourist flows through the use of technologies, interaction with the tourist or the extension of sources of attraction to new spaces”, he indicated.
FOLLOW THE LINE INITIATED
The proposal to set limits on tourism with a low economic impact continues the line established by the PSPV of Valencia, with the surcharge proposed for tourist apartments and cruises in the tourist tax approved in Les Corts.
“These are tourist activities that generate a very limited economic impact in the city and that imply an imbalance for the quality and sustainable, socially and environmentally, tourism model that has been successfully implemented in our city”, concluded Sandra Gómez.
