La Laguna (Tenerife) (EFE).- The professor of Business Organization Francisco García has been elected the new rector of the University of La Laguna.
García has easily prevailed in the vote, carried out this Thursday electronically, against the other candidate, Rosa Aguilar, who aspired to revalidate the position of rector.
The new rector has obtained the support of 72.8% of voters, compared to 27.2% of his predecessor.
In the voting process, which opened at 9:00 a.m. and closed at 7:00 p.m., 8,570 people participated, representing 38% of a census of 22,603.
Broken down by sector, in terms of civil servant teaching staff with a doctorate, Francisco García has obtained 59.8% compared to 40.2 for Rosa Aguilar. The rest of the teaching and research staff, 59% the first and 41% the second.
In the student body and research staff in training, García has achieved 76.2% and Aguilar 23.8%. Finally, in administration and services personnel, García won 65.5% of the votes compared to 34.5% for Aguilar.
In these elections, the results are weighted according to the sector to which the voters belong: thus, the vote of the PDI doctor sector with permanent links has a weight of 51%; that of the remaining PDI figures, 9%; that of the student body, 30%; and that of the PAS, 10%.
Francisco Javier García Rodríguez was born in Tijarafe (La Palma) and has a PhD in Economics from the University of La Laguna since 2002 and professor of the Business Organization area of the Department of Business Management and Economic History.
He launched and directed for three years (2008-2011) the Program for the Promotion of Entrepreneurship at the University of La Laguna (Emprende.ull), as well as the Chair for Young Entrepreneurs. Between 2015 and 2019 he was vice-rector for Relations with Society.
He is Principal Investigator of the Empresa y Sociedad research group and has participated in multiple national and international projects, both research and teaching innovation.
He is part of the Entrepreneurship Area of the Scientific Association of Economics and Business Management of Spain (ACEDE) and currently directs the University Institute of Business.
