This afternoon the minister visited the advanced command post installed in the town of Navelgas, in the council of Tineo, located in western Asturias, the area hardest hit by the fires, which add up to 96 active sources throughout the community.
Grande-Marlaska, who has affirmed that, if the requirements were met, Asturias could be declared a catastrophic zone, has assured that the central Executive “will support all those affected from the beginning.”
“The central government does not forget about an emergency until the recovery phase is over,” he said in statements to journalists.
The head of the Interior explained that the fact that such a significant number of outbreaks have been recorded may lead one to think that some of them have been provoked, but he has chosen to be “cautious”.
In this sense, he pointed out that “all the investigations are underway” and “that no one has any doubt that in the case of provoked crimes, those responsible will answer before the courts.”
Grande-Marlaska has pointed out, however, that the priority objective at this time is that “the integrity of people is not at risk”, for which he has valued the work of the extensive operation deployed in the community.
The minister has assured that they are working “all the necessary and precise means” to combat the flames with the aim that the outbreaks are extinguished “as soon as possible” and that the damage “is minor.”
In this sense, he has hoped that favorable weather forecasts will be confirmed for the next few hours after a day with gusts of winds of up to 90 kilometers per hour that have “made it difficult to contain the fires” and have prevented media from leaving. aerial.
“We will continue working by implementing the necessary means”, stressed the minister.
