Oviedo, Mar 31 (EFE).- Asturias registers 116 forest fires early this Friday, twenty-six more than last night, a situation that yesterday forced the eviction of 174 people from 39 homes in the western area and cutting off the A-8 motorway with Galicia.
As reported by the Emergency Service of the Principality of Asturias (SEPA), the communication cuts decreed yesterday remain active.
Thus, in the council of Valdés traffic remains interrupted, except for emergency vehicles, the A-8 between kilometer points 441 and 444 in Cadavedo, the N-634 in Trevías, the N-632 in Ballota, the AS- 351 from Almuña to the town of Merás and the AS-219 in Naraval (Tineo).
Likewise, rail traffic remains cut off at the height of Cadavedo.
The Valdés council concentrates, in the western zone, the extinction actions and SEPA Firefighters from various parks and members of the Military Emergency Unit (UME) remain mobilized there.
Another section of the UME will join the extinction work today with 50 troops and 20 vehicles that will be added to the 95 soldiers and 40 media already working in the region.
In addition, another Forest Fire Reinforcement Brigade (BRIF) will also be added from Tabuyo, in León, with which the operation will already add around 700 troops with dozens of land vehicles, two seaplanes and five helicopters.
The efforts to extinguish these fires, which according to the authorities were intentional, were hampered yesterday by strong winds, a situation that according to the State Meteorological Agency (Aemet) will be repeated today, although, unlike yesterday, expect some light rain and showers.
