Madrid (EFE).- The Spanish public administrations closed 2022 with a deficit of 4.8% of GDP, below the reference set by the Government (5% of GDP) thanks to the boost in collection, which registered a historical maximum of 255,463 million euros, 14.4% more.
The Minister of Finance, María Jesús Montero, presented the budget execution data for 2022 at a press conference this Thursday to highlight that “Spain once again managed to meet its budget commitments” for the third consecutive year thanks to the policies put in place and the improvement in public revenue.
The accumulated public deficit in 2022 stood at 63,776 million euros, equivalent to 4.8% of GDP, below the 2021 rate (6.9% of GDP) and the Government reference for the year (5% of GDP) and above the forecasts of organizations such as AIReF (4.5%) or the Bank of Spain (4.6%).
Behind this good evolution of public accounts is the evolution of collection, which broke the record of 2021 (223,385 million) and exceeded both the forecasts included in the 2023 Budgets (232,352 million) and in the budget plan sent to Brussels in October (244,072 million).
