Moscow, (EFE).- The president of Russia, Vladimir Putin, signed this Thursday a decree for the military recruitment of 147,000 Russians from April 1 to July 15.
The decree, published on the Russian Government’s legal information portal, establishes that Russians between the ages of 18 and 27 will be summoned.
In addition, it also provides for the termination of the military service contracts of the military whose time of service has concluded.
This appeal summons 12,500 more people than in 2022, when the recruitment of 134,500 people was announced.
Change in conscription law
It would be the last call to service with these ages, since the Legislature is currently processing a bill that raises the minimum and maximum age for compulsory military service in Russia from the current 18 and 27 years to 21 and 30 years.
The initiative was proposed at the end of 2022 by Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu and supported by President Vladimir Putin, and came after hundreds of thousands of Russian men of military age left Russia following the decreed mobilization. in September 2022 by the head of the Kremlin.
Three months later, a group of deputies headed by the chairman of the Defense and Security Committee, Andrei Kartapolov, proposed raising the upper threshold of military age from 27 to 30 years immediately and increasing the lower one in stages between 2024. and 2026.
If the bill is adopted in both chambers of the Russian Parliament and subsequently signed by Putin, Russian recruits will have from 19 to 30 years of age from January 1, 2024, from 20 to 30 years in 2025, and from 21 in 2026. years to 30 years.
However, those who wish may do military service from the age of 18.
In addition, men between the ages of 27 and 30 may provide the service, if they have not done so under current law, in case they present the corresponding request.
