Seville, Mar 29 (EFE).- Sevilla will close two sectors of the Ramón Sánchez-Pizjuán stadium, in the lower tier of Gol Norte, in the LaLiga match against Celta set for Friday, April 7, to comply with the Closing sanction for a match issued by the Competition Committee of the Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) for the 2016-17 season.
“Sevilla FC, after exhausting all possible appeals, must comply with the closure sanction of sectors N11 and N12 for a match issued by the RFEF Competition Committee in the 2016-17 season, for ‘professing insults and choral chants’ in the Copa del Rey match played on January 12, 2017 against Real Madrid”, the club said in a statement, in which it specified that the punishment was “for the anger” against former Sevilla player Sergio Ramos in said meeting.
It adds that “these sectors of the lower tier of Gol Norte, located just behind the goal, will not host fans in the next league match in Nervión, next Good Friday against RC Celta” and that “the club will return the members who They have the subscription in those sectors the amount that corresponds to a game, estimated at 15 euros ”.
Sevilla recalls the chronology of the sanction and the defense resources and reports that “after presenting allegations of said sanction to the Competition Committee itself and, later to the Appeals Committee in March 2017, the adoption of precautionary suspension measures was initially accepted of the sanction requested by Sevilla FC to be able to defend themselves”.
“In April 2017, the Appeals Committee ruled dismissing the appeal and annulled the precautionary suspension, so the club decided to appeal to the Administrative Court of Sport (TAD), which again granted the precautionary suspension and in April partially upheld the appeal, although it maintained the sanction of partial closure, ”says the letter.
The club then went to the Contentious-Administrative Court and again requested a precautionary measure to suspend the sanction, which was admitted in July 2017, and also points out that “the Central Court ruled in September 2018, maintaining the closing sanction partial, but annulling the pecuniary penalty of 6,001 euros, before which the club filed an appeal before the National Court, which dismissed it in March 2021, in turn reimposing the pecuniary penalty.
Sevilla, for this reason, filed, as a last resort, an appeal before the Supreme Court, which in February 2023 issued an order “agreeing the inadmissibility of said appeal”, thus, “the sole judge of the Committee of Competition ordered Sevilla FC in writing to comply with the aforementioned sanction of partial closure of the Ramón Sánchez-Pizjuán that affects sectors N11 and N12”.
The club highlights in its statement that it will contact subscribers from both sectors, some six hundred, to explain how the return will be made.
