Logroño, (EFE).- Half a thousand people, according to data from the organization, have gathered this Wednesday in front of the Government Palace to demand that the Sectoral Table for Concerted Education be reconvened, where they can negotiate the proposed improvements, before “the quiet for response” of the Ministry of Education.
This was stated by the general secretary of the Independent Teaching Union (FSIE) of La Rioja, Gonzalo González, in an informative meeting during this concentration, in which the head of the USO La Rioja Teaching Federation and spokesperson for the convening platform, I Choose Your School, Alejandro Vesga.
González has affirmed that the Ministry of Education carried out, in December 2022, “an action to dismantle the negotiating table that had been raised with a meeting scheduled for the 14th of that month and that was called off.”
“Until now, the Ministry has not sat us down to negotiate any of the improvements that we had proposed and that we had proposed to them”, among which are “the equalization of the economic and human resources of all the centers supported with public funds”, has underlined.
In addition, it has demanded that “the educational programs and measures that are proposed for education be applied to all centers supported with public funds, as well as to improve the regulations on student admission.”
This concentration has been preceded by a banner of the Platform for the Freedom of Education in La Rioja “I Choose Your School”, formed by the National Catholic Confederation of Parents and Parents of Students (CONCAPA); Catholic schools; the Spanish Confederation of Teaching Centers (CECE); USE and FSIE.
Uruñuela: I respect, but I don’t understand the attitude of the conveners
For his part, the Minister of Education, in statements to journalists this Wednesday morning, said that he respects the protest, but that he does not understand the attitude of the organizers.
He also stressed that he was unaware of this call and that he was surprised, not only by the data on schooling for the 2023-2024 academic year, according to which, he said in an information conference, all families will be able to enroll their children online chosen, but because, “for example, yesterday, Tuesday, there was a commission for concerts, and everything was normal and correct.”
Proof of this is that, as he has indicated, “quite a few agreements on different issues” were reached.
Therefore, he has opined that these calls and the attitude of this Platform, at this time, may obey other interests, which “are not merely educational.” EFE
