Calviá (Mallorca), Mar 27 (EFE).- Toni Nadal, Rafa Nadal’s uncle and former coach, stated this Monday that there are “very good tennis players” who can win Roland Garros, the second Grand Slam of the season after Australia, considers that the favorites are the Spaniards Carlos Alcaraz and Rafael Nadal and the Serbian Novak Djokovic.
“(Stéfanos) Tsitsípas played a final in which he beat Djokovic 2-0 (in 2021) we will also have to see if (Alexander) Zverev catches the wave, who also plays very well, but the three main candidates are Alcaraz, Djokovic and Rafael”, said Toni Nadal, after presenting the Mallorca Championschips tournament, of which he is director, and which will be held from June 24 to July 1 on the slopes of the Mallorca Country Calviá in Calviá.
The former coach of Nadal referred to the current moment of his nephew, who last week lost a position in the top ten of the ATP ranking after almost 18 years, and Carlos Alcaraz from Murcia.
“I saw Rafael train the other day and he is at a good level; then we will see in the games, since he may lack rhythm a bit. He has competed very few in the last six months and that always affects him, although he has always been a player who has picked up the thread very quickly”, he commented regarding the Spaniard, thirteenth in the world after the injuries that have forced him to give up several tournaments in recent months.
Alcaraz is, according to Toni Nadal, “a special player”: “He does everything and he does everything well. I don’t know how far he will go, but he has the possibility of being very high up, and I’m sure we’ll see him win many titles, I’m convinced”, he remarked.
