Madrid (EFE).- This Monday, World Theater Day, the first edition of the Talía Awards for Performing Arts is celebrated and the musical “Company”, by Antonio Banderas, is the production that starts as a favorite with five nominations, followed by of “Pharsalia” and “Singing in the rain”, with four.
The Talía Awards were born with the aim of “recognizing excellence”, the president of the Academy of Performing Arts, Cayetana Guillén Cuervo, told EFE, who will be in charge of conducting tonight, at Madrid’s Teatro Español, the gala, Created and directed by Antonio Banderas.
“These awards, which are the counterparts of the Goya, want to defend and dignify all the professions that make up the artistic disciplines of the Performing Arts,” added Guillén Cuervo.

Among the nominees are those responsible for some of the best works of the theater season in Spain, such as the actors Blanca Portillo, Aitana Sánchez-Gijón, Antonio Banderas, Marta Poveda, Javier Gutiérrez, Carmelo Gómez, Ernesto Arias, Rafa Castejón or Carlos Hipolito.
There will also be authors, directors, choreographers and dance performers from the current stage scene, such as Juan Mayorga, Pablo Remón, Pablo Messiez, Laila Ripoll, Antonio Ruz, Mario Bermúdez, Daniel Doña, Manuel Liñán, Catherine Coury or Rocío Molina.
Before the gala, which will begin at 10:00 p.m. and will be broadcast live on TVE’s La 2, there will be dance, circus and theater shows that will tour squares and streets from Plaza Mayor to the outskirts of the Spanish Theater, where they will have place the red carpet.
Lola Herrera, honor award
The honorary award for her professional career will be given to Lola Herrera, and the emerging talent award will go to two young people: the actress María Hervás and the dancer Sergio Bernal.
The prize for social change and inclusion will go to the actor Roberto Enríquez Higueras, popularly known as Bob Pop, and the public recognition award for the musical “El Rey León”, the oldest on the Gran Vía, with more than ten years on the billboard.
Government of Cantabria Award
The interpreter Antonio Resines will receive the extraordinary award from the Government of Cantabria. “Every year, this award will be chosen by an autonomous community”, the president clarified.
“Los Frasantes”, “Tea Rooms” and “Los santos inocentes” are the three titles that will be measured by Talía for best theater show.
They aspire to the Talía for best leading actress in the theater, Blanca Portillo for “Silence”; Vicky Luengo for “El Golem”; and Aitana Sánchez Gijón and Marta Poveda for “Malvivir”.
Javier Gutiérrez for “The innocent saints”; Carlos Hipólito for “Oceanía” and Carmelo Gómez for “The wars of our ancestors” will fight for the award for best leading actor in theater.
On the stage of the gala will be the excellence of the performing arts that include text theater, musical theater, dance, stage music -opera and zarzuela- and circus, Guillén Cuervo has detailed.
“The performing arts invite reflection, feed the critical spirit and give life a different flight”, concluded the president of the Academy of Performing Arts.
