Madrid, (EFE).- Spain closed 2022 as the fifth country in the world with the most installed wind power, specifically with a volume of around 30 gigawatts (GW), although during the last year it was only the tenth country that added the most wind turbines to its generation park.
According to the annual report of the Global Wind Energy Council (GWC) presented this Monday, Spain reached an installed wind power capacity -all onshore- of 29,793 megawatts (MW), after incorporating 1,659 new MW during 2022.
In absolute terms, it is only surpassed by China (365,440 MW), the United States (144,226 MW), Germany (67,006 MW) and India (41,930 MW).
These five main markets, of which India and Spain are the only countries that do not have any marine farms in operation, currently concentrate 72% of the installed wind power worldwide, the same as in 2021.
However, despite remaining among the five countries with the most installed power, Spain was only the tenth country that incorporated the most wind power into its generation park in the last year, with a total of 1,659 MW, all of them onshore.
Leading the way were China (37,631 MW), United States (8,612 MW), Brazil (4,065 MW), Germany (2,745 MW), Sweden (2,441 MW), Finland (2,430 MW), France (2,070 MW), and India (1,847). MW) and the United Kingdom (1,681 MW).
Global wind power reaches 906 GW
The data from the GWEC show a growth in global installed capacity of 9% compared to a year ago, after adding 77.6 new GW worldwide during 2022, placing the total capacity at 906.2 GW, of which about 93% correspond to onshore wind power and 7% to marine parks.
Onshore wind power also grew by 9% compared to the previous year to 841.9 GW, while offshore wind power grew by 16%, reaching 64.3 GW.
In the last year, 68.8 GW on land and 8.8 GW offshore were installed. Both figures represent a setback with the volumes of new power registered in 2021, due to economic instability and problems in supply chains.
