Barcelona (EFE).- In the coming days, FC Barcelona will send a letter to members, sponsoring investors and institutions written by its president, Joan Laporta, in which he will give explanations about the entity’s payments to the former vice-president of the Technical Committee of Referees José Maria Enriquez Negreira.
According to the newspaper Sport and sources from the Barça club confirmed to EFE, said letter will be sent before the press conference, the date of which has not yet been confirmed, in which the entity will give its version of the ‘Negreira case’.
The explanations that the Barça leader will present by mail to members, investors and other institutions will be expanded upon in the appearance where the conclusions of the external investigation commissioned by the Compliance area (internal control of the club) should be presented once the case broke out.
Laporta defends the innocence of Barcelona in the Negreira case
In his public statements made in recent weeks, Laporta has always defended Barcelona’s innocence and has denied that the entity bought referees.
Laporta will send this letter after the Court of Instruction number 1 of the Catalan capital accepted for processing on March 15 the complaint of the Prosecutor’s Office against Barcelona for the millionaire payments of the entity to Negreira and that could constitute various crimes of corruption.
In addition to the investigation opened by the Spanish courts, UEFA announced on March 23 the start of another investigation against Barça for a “potential violation of its legal framework” in relation to the ‘Negreira case’.
