According to the data offered by the Federation of Cinemas of Spain (FECE), in Madrid there were a total of 12,329,648 spectators throughout the past year, which reflects that the people of Madrid went an average of 1.83 times to the cinema in 2022 , taking into account the population residing in the region according to the register of the National Institute of Statistics as of January 1, 2022.
In the case of Catalonia, 11,461,953 people went to see movies on the big screen in 2022, with an average of 1.47 visits per year.
In Navarra there were 935,436 viewers, which, considering the population residing in the community, shows that Navarrese went to the cinema on average 1.41 times in 2022.
Behind Navarra are the Valencian Community (1.36), Murcia (1.29), the Balearic Islands (1.24), the Basque Country (1.23), La Rioja (1.17), Cantabria (1.11) , Andalucía (1.09), Castilla y León (1.04), Canarias (1.01), Aragón (0.98) and Galicia (0.95).
The autonomous communities with fewer spectators were Castilla-La Mancha (0.37), Extremadura (0.76) and Asturias (0.93).
To establish the average attendance of spectators, the total number of tickets sold has been taken into account and not the number of people who went to the cinemas, since the same inhabitant can go to the cinema several days throughout the year or see the same movie more than once.
In absolute terms, the region in which there were the most spectators was Madrid (12,329,648), followed by Catalonia (11,461,953), Andalusia (9,297,897), the Valencian Community (6,912,259), the Basque Country (2,714. 237), Galicia (2,544,267) and Castilla y León (2,456,488).
Madrid and Catalonia, communities with the highest collection
According to data from the Federation of Cinemas of Spain, Madrid was the community in which cinemas raised the most money in 2022, since they entered 85,414,005 euros, ahead of Catalonia (76,454,960 euros).
These autonomies are followed by Andalusia (54,143,053 euros), the Valencian Community (42,190,773 euros), the Basque Country (16,875,378 euros), Galicia (15,414,655 euros), Castilla y León (14,333,845 euros), Canary Islands (13,307,741 euros) and Murcia (11,155,117 euros).
On the other hand, those that raised less money were Castilla-La Macha (9,085,264 euros), the Balearic Islands (8,701,732 euros), Asturias (5,802,966 euros), Navarra (5,332,781 euros), Extremadura (4,620,900 euros ), Cantabria (4,124,187 euros) and La Rioja (2,042,997 euros).
La Rioja and Navarra, autonomies with more screens per million inhabitants
If the total population residing in each autonomy is taken into account, it is in La Rioja where there are more cinema screens per million inhabitants, 137 -44 in absolute figures-.
Behind this community are, in second place, Navarra, with 62 screens and an average of 93 per million inhabitants; in third place, the Basque Country, where there are 196 screens and an average of 88 and, in fourth place, the Valencian Community, with 423 screens and an average of 83 per million people.
On the contrary, Cantabria and Extremadura are the regions with the lowest number of screens per million inhabitants, since in the first there are 34, with an average of 58 per million people, and in the second there are 63 screens with an average of 59.
In absolute terms, Andalusia is the one with the most screens (645), followed by Catalonia (626), Madrid (521) and the Valencian Community (423).
