London (EFE).- The Russian offensive on the Ukrainian city of Bakhmut “has largely stalled” as a result of the “extreme wear and tear” of the Russian forces, in the opinion of the British Government.
“Russia’s assault on the Donbas city of Bakhmut has largely stalled. This is probably the result, first of all, of the extreme attrition of the Russian forces. Ukraine has also suffered heavy losses during its defence,” the British Ministry of Defense noted in its daily war report.
In London’s opinion, the Russian situation has worsened due to tensions between the Russian Ministry of Defense and the private group of mercenaries Wagner Group, which have troops in that area.
For this reason, Moscow has decided to vary its “operational focus” towards Avdiivka, to the south of Bakhmut, and to Kremina-Svatove, in the north, which are “areas where Russia only aspires to stabilize the front,” according to the note.
In an interview yesterday with Radio Libertad, the head of the military administration of the city of Avdiivka, Vitaliy Barabash, assured that the situation there is increasingly resembling that in Bakhmut, the epicenter of the fighting between Russian forces. and ukrainian
All this, London insists, indicates a “general return to a more defensive operational design” by the Russian side, compelled by the “inconclusive results” of its attempts to launch a general offensive from January 2023.
