Pontevedra, Mar 24 (EFE).- The Court of Pontevedra has imposed a reviewable permanent prison sentence on José Luis Abet, the man who shot and killed his ex-wife, Sandra Boquete; his ex-sister-in-law, Alba; and his ex-mother-in-law, María Elena, in Valga (Pontevedra) in 2019.
In accordance with the verdict of the jury that found Abet guilty of three crimes of murder, the second section of the Pontevedra Court has sentenced him to 24 years in prison for killing his ex-wife and 23 and a half years for the murder of his ex mother in law.
Due to the death of his ex-sister-in-law, having been convicted of these two murders, he is subject to permanent reviewable prison, as established in article 140.2 of the Penal Code.
The magistrates have taken into account, in the three crimes, the aggravating circumstance of having committed them due to gender discrimination and the extenuating circumstance of collaboration.
In addition, José Luis Abet has been sentenced to nine years in prison for the mental injuries that these crimes produced on his two children, who witnessed the massacre; and another two years in prison for a crime of illegal possession of weapons.
The court, for the elderly, has also prohibited him from residing in the municipality of Valga for 32 years and definitively deprives him of parental authority over his children.
As for compensation, the perpetrator of this triple murder will have to pay 400,000 euros to each of his two children, 300,000 euros to María Elena’s husband and father of the other two victims, and 120,000 euros to María Elena’s mother, grandmother. from Sandra and Alba.
Another 55,000 euros must be received by each of the five brothers of María Elena, uncles of Sandra and Alba; and 80,000 euros for Alba’s sentimental partner.
The court considers it proven that José Luis Abet killed the three women “intentionally”, after going to his ex-wife’s house, on September 16, 2019, “with the intention of ending her life”.
He did so carrying a revolver with the identification number erased that he had acquired days before along with a box of ammunition, despite the fact that he did not have a weapons license.
He blocked the entrance to the farm with his car to ensure that his ex-wife, who was leaving home to take their two children to school, was forced to stop, a moment that he took advantage of to fire four shots at her, one in the head, two in the neck and a quarter across the chest.
He did it in the presence of his two children, who were in the back seats of his mother’s car, and in a “surprising” manner, which meant that his ex-wife “had no chance to defend herself.”
When José Luis Abet was leaving with his car, after killing Sandra, he came across the vehicle in which the other two victims were traveling, his ex-mother-in-law María Elena and his ex-sister-in-law Alba, who had received a call for help from Sandra. .
When he saw them, he turned the car around and followed them to Sandra’s house, where he shot four times at his ex-mother-in-law and another three times at his ex-sister-in-law, killing them on the spot and without being able to defend themselves.
The three crimes were committed, as proven by the people’s court, because Abet felt “deep contempt” for his ex-partner, “whom he considered inferior because of her feminine condition” and whom he killed, they added, “as an act of imposition and domination”.
In addition, the court stresses, “he expressly wanted” his children to witness the crimes “with the consequent suffering that it entailed for them”, which is why he killed them when they were preparing to go to school, being “fully aware” that they were in front of them. .
