Comillas (EFE).- The Port of Comillas has a wider basin draft and new jetties for a total of 28 sports boats.
The action has been carried out with an investment of one million euros and allows the installation to be updated and adapted to current needs.
The President of Cantabria, Miguel Ángel Revilla, and the Minister of Public Works, Jezabel Morán, have inaugurated this new infrastructure this Friday, which also improves accessibility and provides greater operability and safety to the ships.
Revilla has assured that this port is a “jewel” and is now “to teach” after the various investments that the Government of Cantabria has carried out in recent years.
“It’s a luxury port, like a movie”, asserted the president, who recalled that since he came to the regional Executive in 1995, his commitment has always been to improve the region’s roads and ports.
The counselor has been satisfied with the result of a project that has been carried out based on the agreement between the Government, the City Council, the fishermen and the sports patrons.
In his opinion, Comillas leaves a port of “coexistence and consensus”.
These works will allow the fishing fleet to maintain an increasing rate of unloading and guarantee the safety and accessibility of the vessels in this port.
The counselor has recognized the importance of ports as an instrument of cohesion, as well as their contribution to the image and development of Cantabria, for which she has ensured that investments in these infrastructures are a “priority”.
The basin of the port of Comillas had in 2019, before the work, an average draft of 1.50 meters, insufficient depth to guarantee the operability and safety of fishing and sports boats, which frequently remained stranded on the bottom when there were tides high coefficient drops.
To resolve this situation, the Ministry of Public Works has increased the draft by another 1.50 meters, so that there are now about three meters.
In addition, with the agreement with the Comillas City Council, the Fishermen’s Guild and the users of the berths, the distribution of the dock, the fishing part and the sports part have been modified, and a berthing system with two floating pontoons has been designed. provided with fingers, which are accessed by ramps.
