Beijing (EFE).- The head of Chinese diplomacy, Wang Yi, considers that his country and Europe should reach a “strategic consensus” on a ceasefire and a political resolution of the war in Ukraine.
This was made known last night to Emmanuel Bonne, the diplomatic adviser to French President Emmanuel Macron, in a telephone chat, in which Wang stated that “the resumption of peace talks and the political solution of the ‘crisis'” also they must form part of said “consensus”.
The Chinese Foreign Ministry reported last night in a statement. that its headline also referred to the recent trip of Chinese President Xi Jinping to Moscow, where he met his Russian counterpart, Vladimir Putin: “It was an important visit between two great neighbors and a trip not only of cooperation, but also of peace”.
Putin and Xi “reached a series of consensus on expanding bilateral cooperation and reaffirmed their commitment to adhere to multilateralism,” Wang said, adding that they also “promoted greater democracy in international relations.”
French “appreciation” of Chinese mediation
According to the Chinese diplomat, Beijing “continues to maintain its basic position of promoting peace talks” in Ukraine, a role that was appreciated by the French representative in the conversation.
The Chinese statement ensures that Bonne expressed France’s willingness “to make joint efforts with China to promote a ceasefire and find a peaceful solution.”
The Chinese government, which has shown its opposition to the sanctions against Moscow, issued a statement in February on what it calls “conflict” in which it defends the abandonment of the “cold war mentality” and a ceasefire, a proposal criticized by The West for putting “the aggressor and the attacked” on the same level.
In its document, China defends respect for the territorial integrity of countries, including Ukraine, and the “legitimate security concerns of all parties”, referring to Russia.
