Washington (EFE).- The president of the United States, Joe Biden, appointed the NBA player Stephen Curry and the American chef of Ecuadorian origin José Garcés as members of the Advisory Council for Sports, Fitness and Nutrition, the White House reported this Friday .
Curry and Garcés are part of the group of 27 people that Biden wants to count on to integrate that body.
This council is an advisory body to the president that is charged with promoting physical activity and healthy eating for all Americans, regardless of background or ability.
José Garcés is described by the White House as an entrepreneur and innovator, known for his knowledge of Spanish and Latin American gastronomy, which he has promoted from his restaurants, such as Amada and Volvér.
Curry and sports stars unite for healthy living
Along with Curry, his wife, Ayesha Curry, who is a businesswoman, chef and writer, will also join this entity.
Other sports figures appointed to the council include former basketball player Tamika Catchings, “one of the most awarded athletes of all time,” with four gold medals at the Olympic Games, a WNBA (Women’s Basketball Association of USA) and five-time Defensive Player of the Year and ten-time All Star.
Also on the list is Chloe Kim, the young American snowboarding prodigy, who made history at the 2018 PyeongChang Olympics in South Korea, winning gold at the age of 17 in the halfpipe event; and Elana Meyers, who won five Olympic medals in the winter sport of bobsled.
Then there’s former baseball player Ryan Howard, who spent most of his career with the Philadelphia Phillies and set a milestone as the fastest athlete to reach 100 and 200 home runs, and Chaunte Lowe, the 12-time vault champion. tall US woman and four-time Olympian, who trained for her fifth Games while undergoing chemotherapy and recovering from a double mastectomy.
In 2022, Biden appointed Spanish chef José Andrés and basketball player Elena Delle Donne as co-chairs of the council.
