Las Palmas de Gran Canaria (EFE).- The production of renewable energy in the Canary Islands grew by 6.3% in 2022 and green energies, which covered 20.1% of the demand, recorded the highest number of gigawatt hours (GWh ) produced throughout its history: 1,718.
These are some of the data collected in the 2022 Spanish Electricity System Report and in the 2022 Renewable Energy Report, Red Eléctrica documents that include the main magnitudes of the sector in our country and that have been presented at an event held this Thursday.
According to the document published by Red Eléctrica, this year of record production of renewable energy in the archipelago was mainly driven by photovoltaic solar, a technology that increased by 19.4%, while wind power did so by 3.8%. until reaching a share of 16% of the total Canarian mix.
During 2022, the combined cycle was the one that produced the most electricity in the Islands (42.1% of the total), followed by fuel-gas technologies (37.8%).
On the other hand, renewables also continued to advance in the installation of new power in the region, with the commissioning of 32 megawatts (MW) of photovoltaic solar and 14 MW of wind, which increases the participation of green technologies in 6%. production capacity.
At the end of 2022, one in four MW installed in the Canary Islands is renewable. The Canary Islands network has a total of 1,616 kilometers of line circuit, of which 260 km are of 220 kilowatts (kV) and 1,357 km of voltages of up to 132 kV. EFE
