Madrid (EFE).- In 2022, 34 femicides were committed in Spain, murders of women outside the scope of the couple or ex-partner committed by men “due to machismo or misogyny”, according to the data that the Ministry of Equality has made public this Thursday , which for the first time counts these sexist crimes.
Equality had already published the femicides of the first semester of 2022, when 22 women lost their lives at the hands of a man with whom they did not have or had had a sentimental relationship, according to updated data. To these are added another 12 victims murdered between July and December of last year.
Most of the murders, 21 (almost 62%), were perpetrated by a relative: 13 of the alleged murderers were children, 3 grandchildren, another father, and another 4 had another family relationship with the victim.
Another 4 femicides have been of a sexual nature and 9 have been social (perpetrated by a man with no sentimental or family relationship with the victim, such as friends, neighbors, co-workers, strangers, etc.).
