Johnson testifies today before the House of Commons Committee on Privileges, which is trying to clarify whether the former Tory leader lied to Parliament about parties held at the official Downing Street residence during the pandemic.
The deputies that make up this parliamentary committee have released 110 pages of evidence that, according to the BBC, include “multiple references to the guidelines” to contain covid-19, as well as “screenshots” of the official government website with relevant guidelines on different points of the pandemic period.
Among this new evidence there are also photos, with their corresponding dates, of the social gatherings that Johnson attended.
There is also evidence on the recognition made by the ex-ruler of the guidelines established at that time, extracts of evidence provided by Downing Street officials – the seat of Government – as well as emails exchanged between Government personnel about those meetings.
The BBC further indicates that there are parts of Johnson’s speeches to citizens on the regulations and House of Commons transcripts showing exactly what was said and when.
The former head of the Executive has already acknowledged that he misled Parliament when he said that the anti-covid rules were complied with, but qualifying that he did so “in good faith.”
