Ciudad Real (EFE).- The National Wine Fair (Fenavin 2023), which will be held in Ciudad Real from May 9 to 11, will break a historical record of wineries and cooperatives present, since it will exceed 1,950, and it hopes that wine buyers from more than one hundred countries of the world are present in it.
This was announced by the president of Fenavin and president of the Ciudad Real Provincial Council, José Manuel Caballero, at the presentation of this commercial event on wine, which was also attended by the President of the Government of Castilla -La Mancha, Emiliano García-Page, and more than 300 guests from Castilian-La Mancha society.
Caballero has commented that Fenavin 2023 will be “a very special edition” because for the first time it will take place entirely in the new Ciudad Real Fair Institution (Ifedi) which, coinciding with this presentation, has been inaugurated by the regional president.
The president of the provincial institution has highlighted the fact that, during these years, Fenavin has gained worldwide recognition and has assured that a sample of this is that in this edition there will be more than 15,000 national buyers and between 3,500 and 3,600 international ones.
Of the latter, there are already insurers representing 75 countries, although the organization works so that buyers come from 100 countries around the world.
Wine backbones “sometimes more” than the Conference of Presidents
In addition, all the autonomous communities of Spain will be represented at this fair, for which reason Caballero has assured that wine “sometimes backbones more” than the conference of regional presidents, where not all of them attend.
For Caballero, Fenavin is the most important event related to the wine business, which allows wineries and cooperatives in the province and the region to add value to this product.
In this sense, he has reported that Fenavin has been shown to be a profitable fair, something that is supported by data such as that last year it was “spectacular in the sale of wine abroad”, which allowed the province to sell 381 million euros.
A quantity that has been sold at a better price than in other years, according to the Wine Observatory, with a good increase in the average price per liter that is close to the national average, although the objective should be for this price to be close to the average from countries like France or Italy.
Ciudad Real wine sales have increased by 400%
The president of the Provincial Council of Ciudad Real has assessed how the National Wine Fair has allowed, in these 22 years that have elapsed since the first edition was held, to increase sales of wine in the province, going from 98 million then, up to the current 390 million, which represents a 400% increase.
On the other hand, he commented that having a new fair infrastructure in Ciudad Real will dissipate all those intentions that existed to bring the wine fair to Madrid or Barcelona.
“We had to improve and we couldn’t stay stagnant. We have made progress so that, even though it is the best Spanish wine fair in the world, we prevent the fair from ceasing to be held in Ciudad Real”, he claimed.
Ciudad Real inaugurates an exhibition area of 31,700 m2
Now, Caballero has indicated, with the 31,700 square meters of exhibition space, Ciudad Real has a stable, modern, accessible and “perfectly interconnected” infrastructure with the latest technology.
For his part, the regional president, Emiliano García-Page, was pleased that Ciudad Real once again became the epicenter of the world of wine next May.
And he recalled that in addition to the intention of taking the celebration of the fair to Madrid or Barcelona, also in Castilla-la Mancha there were attempts to take Fenavin away from Ciudad Real, something, to which he has said, he had to say in his day no, when he was mayor of Toledo.
“Ciudad Real could not be taken away from the limelight, because the country’s winery is here,” he concluded.
