Madrid (EFE).- Rafa Castaño, winner of the 2,272,000-euro jackpot of the Antena 3 “Pasapalabra” contest, declared in an interview that this prize will give him “the opportunity to live quietly”: “Even to consider a career , to start again ”, explained the contestant.
“For me it was an incredible opportunity to fix my life. I was very lost and I am very lost professionally”, Castaño acknowledged to various media: “I know what I don’t want to do, which is to have him on the bench, nor make decisions now. I think it’s time to stop, let a few months go by and all decisions are made with perspective and caution ”, he added.
The Sevillian contestant, after nearly two hundred programs competing against Orestes Barbero from Burgos in what has made up the longest-running rival duo on television, was able to win this Thursday the largest jackpot in the history of the program, by completing the rosco in a single turn and with 49 seconds of margin.
It was to Orestes that he dedicated his first thought: “I think part of the reason why I didn’t come out euphoric was because I didn’t come out in front of someone who deserved the pot just like me and I knew it was a bad drink for him (… ). The only thing he thought and said to him was, ‘I’m sorry, uncle’”, he explained, adding: “If I go up to Burgos, of course I’ll call him and invite him to a beer”.
“Zabro”, the word of his victory
The word that confirmed his victory was “zabro”, a noun that defines the “beetle that attacks the wheat fields, especially when the grains are tender” and which, sarcastically, Castaño has found “very ugly”: “It should have been a prettier ”, he joked before admitting that “I never thought it would be that day, because I never thought so”.
“I knew that there was a difficult one left, from a dictionary. Letters go by, c, u, v, x… and when I say the y, I see that it is normal. I tell myself: ‘Wait, that’s the z, stay tuned’. It was a very strange feeling but I didn’t want to lose concentration, because what I didn’t want was, precisely because of that excess of emotion, to make a mistake ”, she recalled.
The Sevillian, who studied Journalism and did an internship in the Seville delegation of EFE, is a partner of the Caótica bookstore, which lately has found it difficult to remain open. For this reason, he wanted to help by taking “many people to the bookstore, not only with the intention of buying”, but also with the desire to see it, although for a long time his life could not be “posed behind a counter”, he says.

Even assuming the barrage of congratulations, Castaño has acknowledged that he has not yet reviewed the messages that occupy his networks: “The family wrote to me from groups that we have, very close friends… I did respond to those, but, of course, I have about 115 chats”, he explains and comments that “since we are campaigning, both the mayor of Seville and the PP candidate” have congratulated him.
On the orientation of his new life, the contestant declares: “It does not mean that now I do not work, but that I work what I like, that it is well paid, that it gives me time, that it allows me to telework…”, although it does not fit He doubts that, after all the effort and the reaped reward, he will not lack time to “enjoy, read a lot, watch movies, return to that student life that he missed so much”, he concluded.
