Lahore (Pakistan) (EFE) arrest.
Taking advantage of Khan’s absence to testify in court in a case related to gifts received during his government, “the Punjab police have carried out an assault on my house,” the former Pakistani ruler said on Twitter.
The authorities used tear gas and water cannons to disperse the crowd that has been guarding the vicinity of Khan, in the eastern city of Lahore, for almost two weeks to avoid his arrest, according to several images published by his political party, the Pakistan Tehreek. -e-Insaf (PTI) Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), on Twitter.
Khan appeared this morning before authorities in Islamabad, after a court extended until today a ban on further police action against the former opposition leader, who could still face arrest once his appearance is over.
Supporters took to the streets
The Police launched an operation last Tuesday to arrest the former Pakistani prime minister, the second in less than a month after another failed attempt on the 5th, but the leaders of the opposition formation called on their followers to take to the streets and take action of the security forces degenerated into clashes.
The opposition leader has been accused of keeping gifts received during his tenure without delivering them to a government warehouse where gifts from foreign officials are kept, for which, if they want to keep them, they must previously pay 50% of their appraisal value.
Khan has been implicated in other cases as well, recusing himself from appearing in court due to health concerns and lack of security after he suffered gunshot wounds to both legs from an assassination attempt last November.
The former ruler was ousted from his post last April through a vote of no confidence, which Khan attributed to a move by the United States to oust him from power, although he later claimed that it was former Pakistani Army chief Qamar Bajwa who conspired with the opposition to evict him.
