Sagunto (Valencia) (EFE).- The Sagunto (Valencia) gigafactory projected by the Volkswagen group, with an initial annual capacity of 40 gigawatt hours (GWh), will produce 150 million battery cells per year for 500,000 vehicles, will have state-of-the-art technologies and will be a leader in sustainability.
On the grounds of the plant, the inaugural act of the construction of the factory was held this Friday, chaired by Felipe VI, accompanied by the President of the Government, Pedro Sánchez, which is expected to be in operation in 2026 and will supply battery cells to the Martorell (Barcelona) and Pamplona plants.
The Sagunto gigafactory is “a key bastion” of Volkswagen’s transformation and commitment to electric mobility and leadership in cell technology, and PowerCo, the group company in charge of building the plant, in which investments will be made. 3,000 million euros and 3,000 direct jobs will be created, is a fundamental part of this strategy.
