Santander (EFE).- Llinde Ariel Jordan, one of the most awarded Friesian cows in Spain and Europe, has focused all eyes this Friday on the patio of the Parliament of Cantabria, in the act in which its owner, Agapito Fernández, has received the Silver Medal from the Government of Cantabria.
Champion of Europe and three times considered the best dairy cow in Spain, this beef has allowed the Ceceño farm where it was raised, in the Cantabrian municipality of Valdáliga, to obtain this distinction from the autonomous community.
The medal delivery ceremony was chaired by the President of Cantabria, Miguel Ángel Revilla, and the President of Parliament, Joaquín Gómez, and brought together various councilors of the regional Executive, political parties and family and friends of the Agrarian Transformation Society of Ceceno.
The cow: pride and tradition in Cantabria
“I have heard it said what a shame to put a cow in Parliament, I have heard it. Well, she has a much better right than perhaps many of us who are here today, ”the president said at the beginning of his speech.
Revilla, who considers this recognition a historical fact and justice, has also ensured that the cow is not just an animal, but that it represents a sector, the farmers and the tradition of Cantabria, since he has recalled that the autonomous community has lived for centuries of this animal.
He has considered “a pride” that a cow that has traveled half the world is in the Parliament of Cantabria and that has entered the courtyard of the Chamber “just like in the block, because it is used to traveling.”
“We come from a humble farm in the El Tejo area, we have started working since we were little and we have reached today having a farm according to the circumstances of today’s demands in order to be competitive”, explained Agapito Fernández after receiving the Silver Medal.
Llinde: pride of Friesian breed
Recognized for his work as a family business, professional and example of good breeders, for his effort and for his contribution to the prestige of the region’s livestock sector, Fernández has said that today he is a livestock farmer thanks to his father who taught him “one of the the most beautiful professions in life”.
His wife Rosana also wanted to have a few words of recognition for her husband, who believes that “he has earned it hard”, because it is the result of a job “well done”.
“Llinde is an icon of the Frisian morphological scene, she is different in every way, sometimes so tender, sometimes so cold and distant, other times so impatient, brave, a bit dramatic, delicate and daring. She even pretends she doesn’t care but deep down she loves to shine. At 11 years old, she looks like a young cow with an udder depth that borders on the impossible”, summarized Rosana, who believes that Llinde and Agapito make a duo that has made history.
This Silver Medal has been awarded at the request of the Minister of Livestock, Guillermo Blanco, after this family business from Valdáliga achieved the title of Supreme European Champion with Llinde Ariel Jordan in the international Dairy Show 2022 competition.
