Quito, Mar 16 (EFE).- The Ecuadorian opposition activated this Thursday the impeachment process against the president of Ecuador, Guillermo Lasso, who they accuse of allegedly protecting people close to him and the ruling party in an alleged network of corruption in public enterprises.
The censorship impeachment request was presented in the National Assembly (Parliament) after gathering 58 signatures from Correísmo legislators, the right-wing Christian Social Party (PSC), a former electoral ally of Lasso, and some parliamentarians from the Pachakutik indigenous movement and from Democratic Left (ID).
The accusation against Lasso is based on the alleged crimes of concussion and embezzlement (embezzlement), which must first be evaluated by the Constitutional Court to determine if it is duly founded and that the Assembly can continue with the process.
