Chicago (USA) (EFE).- The American firm Nike reported this Wednesday that it will stop using kangaroo leather for its products by the end of 2023, a decision that was also made two weeks ago by the German brand Cougar.
The decision was announced by the US firm with a note to the ‘ESPN’ chain and picked up by the local media, after a law in Oregon, the state where Nike has its headquarters, prevented the use of “parts of a dead kangaroo or any product containing parts of a dead kangaroo.”
The American firm will use synthetic materials for its boots with properties similar to those of kangaroo leather.
Nike uses the skin of this marsupial above all to make football boots.
In recent months, sports brands that use kangaroo skin have received harsh criticism from animal rights groups.
