Santa Cruz de Tenerife (EFE).- The president of the Canary Islands, Ángel Víctor Torres, has challenged CC and PP this Tuesday to report him immediately in the duty court instead of insisting on “insinuations” about whether he has covered up any illegal action in relation to the Mediator case, which this Tuesday is debated monographically in a plenary session of the regional Parliament.
If they do not get up from the seat to go to court, it means that “they are making political use” of this case “a few weeks before the elections” to damage their image as a candidate and that of the PSOE, said Ángel Víctor Torres.
He reiterated that Taishet Fuentes, who was appointed General Director of Livestock to replace his uncle Juan Bernardo Fuentes Curbelo when he won a seat in Congress, was dismissed in June 2022 “because he was not the right person” for the position and because he was facing to the livestock sector, unrelated to the Mediator case.
“Recognize that the dismissal was well done,” Torres told the representatives of the CC and PP, and also assured that he did not see any compromising video about the then general director with whom he allegedly tried to blackmail the Government, a matter for which he was asked CC spokesman, José Miguel Barragán.
Neither the Government, nor the livestock organizations nor the opposition itself knew anything about the investigation and it is not the responsibility of the executive to “trust someone who has failed”, its responsibility is to “separate” him when he fails, defended the president.
Torres told the president of the PP of the Canary Islands, Manuel Domínguez, that he has not given any explanation about “the coffee” that he had taken a year earlier with the mediator, Marco Antonio Navarro Tacoronte, who apparently told him that the Cabildo was going against him when he was mayor of Los Realejos or that he announced that there were major cases that were going to jump.
That is why he concluded that the representative of the PP has “different measuring sticks and rods”, something that he also transferred to José Miguel Barragán, from CC, because in his day he “put his hand in the fire” by Miguel Zerolo, convicted of the case of Las Teristas, and because his party does not separate accused and then convicted persons.
“You are in superfluous and anecdotal issues”, in “dimes and bickering”, in “gossip and gossip”, and not in the “proven facts”, when everything is reduced to “individual facts”, Torres reproached the opponents and reiterated that will not allow a single doubt that someone from the Government knew about the plot.
In this regard, he detailed some of the internal actions carried out in the Government to find out the scope of the efforts of the mediator Navarro Tacoronte in different departments.
He explained that drone purchases were made in the General Directorate of Security, but none from the companies that worked with Navarro, and although in the Ecological Transition area there were meetings with the intermediary none of the six companies he represented received aid for the implementation of photovoltaic installations on farms.
In the area of Economy and Employment, no improper action was observed in the subsidies, nor in the Canary Islands Health Service, despite the fact that there were several meetings with the intermediary to discuss contracts for the supply of milk to hospitals, distribution vehicles for Vaccines for vulnerable patients or hiring drones for medical transport.
“In any case, this government is going to continue with the internal investigation ad nauseam” and collaborating with the court, to which the files of the General Directorate of Livestock have been delivered since 2016. EFE
