Madrid, Mar 14 (EFE).- The consumer price index (CPI) rose last February in all the autonomous communities except Extremadura, where it did not change, and it did so notably in the Canary Islands and the Valencian Community (1 .2%) and in Andalusia, Aragon, the Balearic Islands, Murcia and La Rioja (1.1%).
According to data published this Tuesday by the National Statistics Institute (INE), inflation rose 1% in Cantabria, Castilla-La Mancha, Catalonia and the Basque Country; 0.9% -same as the national average- in Castilla y León; 0.8% in Asturias, Galicia and Navarra, and 0.5% in Madrid.
With these data, in the first two months of the year only Extremadura registered a negative figure (-0.4%), while the Balearic and Canary Islands stood at 1.1% and Catalonia at 1%.
The interannual CPI reached the highest figure in Castilla-La Mancha (6.9%), ahead of the Canary Islands (6.8%) and Andalusia and Murcia (6.6%), and the lowest in Madrid (5. 2 %).
From January to February, the year-on-year inflation rate has grown by half a percentage point in the Canary Islands, four tenths in Cantabria and three in Andalusia, the Balearic Islands, Catalonia, the Valencian Community, Murcia and La Rioja.
On the contrary, it has fallen almost one point (0.9) in Extremadura, one tenth in Navarra and Madrid and has remained stable in Galicia, Castilla-La Mancha, Castilla y León and Asturias.
In Melilla, the CPI grew by 1.3% in February and 7.5% year-on-year and in Ceuta by 0.9 and 6.8%, respectively.
The Food and non-alcoholic beverages group shot up in the interannual rate by 19.1% in Extremadura, 18.0% in the Canary Islands and more than 17% in Andalusia, Murcia, Castilla-La Mancha, the Valencian Community and Castilla y León, while in Catalonia it rises by 14.5% and in La Rioja, the Balearic Islands and the Basque Country it remains below 16%.
Only in February did the prices of this group increase by 2.7% in the Canary Islands and by 2% or more in the Valencian Community, Andalusia, the Balearic Islands, Murcia and Catalonia and in the first two months of the year it already reached 4.2% in Canary Islands, 2.8% in the Balearic Islands and 2.7% in the Valencian Community, all three above the average.
On the other hand, the group Housing, water, electricity, gas and other fuels fell in all communities in the interannual rate, more in Extremadura (-10.0%), Andalusia (-9.6%) and the Valencian Community (-9 .2%) and less in Navarra (-3.0%), Catalonia (-4.1%) and Madrid (-4.2%).
