Thirteen Holy Week processions will tour the streets of Santander between April 1 and 9, with the participation of ten city brotherhoods and more than 1,300 people.
The Holy Week events will begin on April 31 with the proclamation, the blessing and inauguration of the exhibition of steps that will appear in the processions in the Plaza Porticada, an act presided over by Bishop Manuel Sánchez Monge, the mayoress of Santander, Gema Igual , and the president of the Board of Brotherhoods, Pilar Fuentes Ganzo.
Santander residents and visitors will be able to visit the tent for free and contemplate these works of sacred art every day until April 8, from 10:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m., except on Holy Thursday and Good Friday, which will close at 2:00 p.m.
In addition, the tent will collect food for the Economic Kitchen and donations for Diocesan Caritas to help the Ukrainian people.
La Dolorosa will open the processions
The first of the processions will be that of Our Mother the Blessed Virgin Mary on Via Dolorosa, on April 1 at 6:00 p.m.; Palm Sunday, April 2. It will leave at 10.45 am from the Plaza del Ayuntamiento and that same day in the afternoon the children’s procession will be held, in which the brotherhoods of Los Dolores and La Pasión will participate.
On April 3 will be the procession of La Esperanza; On April 5, the procession of Forgiveness and Silence will go through the streets of the city; on the afternoon of Holy Thursday the Holy Vera Cruz and Passion of the Lord will come out; on Good Friday the general procession of the Holy Burial is planned, and on Easter Sunday the procession of the Risen One.
This year, the official poster for Holy Week is the work of Pablo Lanchares and stars the Cristo del Amor of the Cofradía de los Dolores on the occasion of the celebration of its 75th anniversary.
