Las Palmas de Gran Canaria (EFE).- Salvamento Marítimo has rescued this Friday, 185 kilometers south of Gran Canaria, a boat with 48 people of sub-Saharan origin on board, including six children and three pregnant women.
As reported to EFE by a spokesperson for the public company, the boat was located thanks to the coordinates provided by the telephone number of one of its occupants, which allowed a merchant en route through the area, the Bow Caroline, to be sent to their aid.
This Norwegian-flagged oil tanker stayed with the boat until the Civil Guard patrol boat Río Tajo and the rescue ship Salvamar Macondo arrived at that point in the Atlantic, located about 200 kilometers east of Cape Bojador (Sahara).
In total, on board the gondola were 24 women (including the three pregnant women), 18 men and six children, who arrived with the Macondo at the port of Arguineguín around 9:00 p.m. (Canary Islands time). EFE
