Santa Cruz De Tenerife (EFE).- The soundtracks of comic book heroes and villains such as Superman, Batman and Joker, a tribute to the composer of “Twin Peaks”, Angelo Badalamenti, and the sounds of an electronic Penderecki are part of the XVII edition of the Tenerife International Film Music Festival (Fimucité), which returns to the summer and will extend the programming days to 17.
Fimucité, the oldest film music festival in Europe, will return to normal this year after the restrictions imposed by the coronavirus pandemic and will also do so on summer dates, as in its beginnings, so that it will be held from 30 from June to July 16, as detailed this Friday at a press conference by its director, Diego Navarro.
The change of the date from September to June has not been “traumatic”, explained the director of Culture of the Cabildo de Tenerife, Alejandro Krawietz, since it was his proposal to avoid accumulating concerts by the Tenerife Symphony Orchestra which, in fact, it coincided with Fimucité’s wishes.
In fact, the festival will open its proposals with a summer film cycle, with five open-air screenings, free admission, in the García Sanabria park in Santa Cruz de Tenerife, where two blockbusters produced by India will be screened: “Krak ” and “Action Jackson, whose song “RRR” is nominated for an Oscar in this edition.
The concert program will start with the new proposal of the Pop Culture Band, on July 1 at the Teatro Guimerá in Santa Cruz de Tenerife, where the musical director Gonzalo de Araoz will propose the show “It’s time for…”, with songs that They have been part of the soundtracks of films and series based on comics and with the performance of the Canarian singer Cristina Ramos.
For its part, the Teatro Leal de La Laguna will host two concerts, the first on July 7 with “Electronic Penderecki”, which will address the shared universe of filmmakers David Lynch and Stanley Kubrick and will pay tribute to the Polish composer and conductor Krzysztof Penderecki , who died in 2020, which will be reinterpreted in an electronic key by the British band Juno Reactor.
“This first part of the concert will be a dark and fascinating journey in which we will explore new sounds, an experimental exercise never done before at the festival”, stated Diego Navarro.
The second part of the concert will be dedicated to Angelo Badalamenti, author of the iconic music for the “Twin Peaks” series, who died last December, in a tribute that will continue at the Teatro Leal on July 8 with “Jazzladamenti”, a Jazz tribute to the composer performed by the Big Band of the Canary Islands.
The following day, the La Laguna University Auditorium will host the concert “Heroes del píxel”, which will deal with the music written for video games by the Danish composer Jesper Kyd, famous for his works for sagas such as “Hitman”, “Assassin’s Creed” and ” Borderlands”.
And to compensate for the restrictions of recent years, Fimucité will hold a double symphonic concert in its new edition, on July 14 and 15 at the Auditorio de Tenerife, dedicated to the world of comics and its protagonists, heroes and villains.
The first will be entitled “Excelsior Concert: The Legacy of Stan Lee” and will offer a program with the soundtracks of Marvel and its cinematographic universe, such as “Spider-man” and the music of Danny Elfman, “The Incredible Hulk”, ” X-Men”, “Black Panther” and “The Avengers”.
“Gods and Detectives”, dedicated to DC Comics, will be the symphonic concert on July 15 with a program that will perform the soundtracks that have accompanied superheroes like Superman and Batman on the big screen, villains like the Joker and other characters from the noir genre, such as “El cuervo”.
The director of Fimucité, Diego Navarro, has described as “epic” the “extraordinary and complex” work that is necessary to carry out this musical event and, asked if he has found “villains” on his way, has joked that the The road hasn’t been easy, and there have also been bad guys like Storm Hermine last year.
Developing Fimucité is a complicated chess move every year, especially to balance the musicians’ agendas, Navarro continued, to which Alejandro Krawietz added that the festival is a sample of the cultural success of the encounter between music and cinema in the island, and it has become an essential.
The mayor of Santa Cruz de Tenerife, José Manuel Bermúdez, has encouraged Fimucité to explore other spaces in the city for its activities, such as the Palacio de Carta (which will open this month), the Viera y Clavijo park, the School of Arts and Trades and the Masonic Temple, since the capital wants culture to be “in the street”.
His namesake in La Laguna, Luis Yeray Gutiérrez, recalled that the city was the first to consider culture as an essential good and specified that a society that understands that cultural activity is a backbone and generates an economy can begin to change things. EFE
