Quito, (EFE).- The artistic company Los Teranes, from Ecuador, held the Guinness record for the largest family cast in the world, obtained by representing the musical Jesus Christ Superstar with 36 members of the same family.
In total, three different generations coincided on the same stage, divided into twenty-seven adults and nine children, in addition to the participation of a choreographic group of twelve dancers and a live band of seven musicians, according to the company in a statement.
Although the representation of the musical work was made on April 9, 2022 at the San Gabriel Theater, the confirmation of the world record by the World Record Guinness organization did not arrive until January 5, 2023.
For this reason, Los Teranes returned this Tuesday to the Teatro San Gabriel, in Quito, to celebrate the world title on the same stage.
To accredit the record, the company had to send the organization up to 430 files that demonstrated the relationship of its members, between brothers, father, children and grandchildren of the Terán family, as well as their respective experience in the theatrical or musical field.
In these documents, the artistic career of Fausto and Miguel Terán Guerra, the older brothers, was compiled with audios of songs that were recorded in the year 1969.
Witnessing the feat were the singer, songwriter and actress Alexandra Cabanilla and the former rector, founder and president of the University of the Arts of Ecuador Ramiro Noriega, who sent a signed statement on the family’s performance.
The dream of this world record began in 2009, when the Teráns made their first season of Jesus Christ Superstar, in which 35 family members took part to represent a montage based on the musical work of Andrew Lloyd Weber and the lyrics of Tim Rice. .
In the function where the record was obtained, thirteen years after having had the idea, the general director of the cast, Juan Carlos Terán, played Herod, while Martín Terán was in the role of Jesus and Pancho Terán played Judas, the antagonist of the play.
In turn, Mía Terán played Mary Magdalene and Felipe Terán was Pilate.
“We hope that this recognition inspires other Ecuadorian artists to continue fighting to achieve their dreams”, wished Pancho Terán.
“This is probably the first Guinness record in the art field for the country and we hope there can be many more,” he added.
Thus, Los Teranes announced a new season of their musical Jesus Christ Superstar where the same record-winning cast will participate.
It will be at the same Teatro San Gabriel with six performances on April 7, 8, 9, 14, 15 and 16.
