La Laguna (Tenerife) (EFE).- The national spokesperson for Ciudadanos, Patricia Guasp, has defended this Sunday meritocracy and has considered that equal opportunities between men and women is not achieved with quotas but with effective and efficient policies.
Guasp, who has traveled to Tenerife, where the executive committee of his party meets tomorrow, thus responded to the announcement by the Prime Minister, Pedro Sánchez, that the Council of Ministers will approve parity by law on Tuesday in “the centers of decision”.
The spokesperson for Cs, in statements to journalists, has acknowledged that there is a wage gap between men and women and “we must move forward in that” but has insisted that “with slogans behind a banner” it is only possible to achieve it with efficient measures that they avoid, he has said, that aspects such as motherhood harm women.
In his statements, Guasp has also expressed his party’s concern about the purchase of Air Europa by Iberia and in this regard has asked the Government to guarantee the maintenance of frequencies and prices on routes between the Peninsula and the two Spanish archipelagos.
To do this, his party has addressed the National Market and Competition Commission to ensure current connectivity, frequencies and prices and has announced a bill from his group in Congress to study how to control the flight prices.
The 75 percent discount that residents of the Balearic and Canary Islands have is very beneficial, said Guasp, who has warned that this subsidy should not affect the price of tickets for residents or non-residents.
He has also referred to the “submission” with which, in his opinion, Pedro Sánchez acts with Morocco and has warned that his party will be vigilant so that the negotiations between the two countries do not harm or hinder the rights of the Canaries in aspects such as the delimitation of territorial waters.
“Sánchez has something to hide” said the Cs spokesperson, who has also accused the PSOE and the PP of not changing the regional financing system that harms some communities such as the Canary Islands or the Balearic Islands and benefits others.
“Citizens from the Canary Islands are considered second and third level compared to others who have many privileges,” he criticized while accusing the two parties of continuing to deepen regional inequalities.
He has also referred to the commission of investigation requested by his group in Congress on the Mediator case, of which he has said that he finds it “disgusting” and has considered that no Spaniard deserves that a single euro of his be used “to pay bribes , prostitutes and drugs from shameless politicians who stain politics and society”.
